Patch notes for October 20
Built for crowds
The game now trades updates with the server far more often. In a busy town other players move about three times as smoothly, zoning into a crowd is about 4 seconds faster, and the server has been tested with hundreds of players in one place. Kill credit and rewards are shared fairly in parties and crowds, and several players' trusts stay out of each other's way.
New
- Mouse look: hold the right mouse button to turn the camera, and your character faces where you look. The wheel glides the camera in and out, even with a menu open.
- Achievements in game: a banner and a chime when you earn one, a window with all of them, and a tracker on your HUD.
- The Lotusreach look everywhere: the map and its menus, the Moogle and delivery box, auction house pages, shop Buy and Sell, list arrows and the game's numbers now match the rest of the interface.
- Character creation: your new character stands still and faces you while you make it. Press H to hide the menus.
- Launcher controls: Settings > Controls uses the same bindings editor as the game's Controls menu.
- Modern seas in Jeuno, Port Bastok, Norg and Kazham.
Improved
- No rain, snow or lightning in caves and interiors, and cutscenes keep their own weather with the HUD hidden.
- Softer lamp shadows, no sun shadows indoors, and steadier shadow edges.
- Stars hold steady while the camera turns, and clouds fade into the horizon.
- Shadows and wet ground carry on across the water's edge, and spells light the water.
- Someone stepping out from behind a wall appears sooner, and name plates stay crisp.
- Sprint is on the Movement tab, and new characters start with the Full keyboard layout.
- Import FFXI macros also finds macros from a retail FFXI install.
- The launcher says why when signing in fails.
Fixed
- Bastok Markets' canals and pools show their water again (the first update today drew them black).
- The mouse cursor no longer vanishes.
- Saving your settings to the server no longer causes a hiccup.
- Splitting a signed stack keeps the signature on both halves.
- No dark ring in the grass round characters at night, and no lamp blink near spell effects.
- Frame generation and upscaling glitches round running characters, hair and capes, menu edges and rain splashes.
