The Living World, everywhere
Towns that keep their hours
Hundreds of townsfolk now live in San d'Oria, Bastok, Windurst and Jeuno: bakers and the changing guard at dawn, the market crowd by day, a lamplighter at dusk and the night watch after. They shelter from the rain, greet you, gossip about the world's news and give directions when you ask.
Travellers on the roads
Adventuring parties, merchants with their chocobos, couriers and pilgrims travel between the towns. They camp by a fire at night and carry the news from one region to the next. The merchants sell their home town's goods, and now and then something rare, while it lasts.
Come upon it in the wild
Events no longer spring up around you. They wait out where they belong until someone comes that way. Beastmen nobody keeps in check grow bold, take the roads and raise a war camp that stands until adventurers raze it, and the world remembers it all. Nothing the living world adds ever stands where the game tells its story.
Shops, quests, key items and Config, rebuilt
Shops and guild shops mark what you already own and what your job can wear, and guild shops show how many of each item the guild has left. Every quest shows its own text with Guide me, key items sit in their categories with new ones marked, every Config page is on one screen, and a long list of choices shows whole on one page.
West Ronfaure, rebuilt
Rounder rocks and walls, and every tree grown again with real branches and full crowns of leaves. Graphics > Effects > Detail > "HD zones" brings back the original zone.
New
- Wildflowers grow in drifts where the grass is lush, and photo-scanned detail shows on the ground up close.
- Ambient life (birds, butterflies, fireflies, falling leaves, leaping fish) and the sound of the place under the game's music, each with its own settings under Graphics > Effects.
- Walk with W A S D: while letters move you, Enter opens the chat line.
- Many fixes to the menus and the server's scripts now reach you while you play, with no restart.
- The launcher fetches the music and textures the server pushes, so they're there when the game starts (launcher 1.6.0).
Fixed
- North Gustaberg's rivers ripple again, and pools, tide pools, beach foam, surf and river falls look as they should.
- Effects no longer sink into water, and grass no longer changes with the camera.
- Smaller cuts on the head, and none in cutscenes.
- Zone lines under the floor aren't highlighted, and the target arrow sits just over gathering points.
- Sprint's Shift keeps working while letter keys move you.
- NPC lines the word filter garbled read right in the log.
